Course Outline

Explore colouring anodised aluminium through dying, printing and using resists to produce a vast array of patterned effects.

Students will learn how to print, paint and dye anodised aluminium to create a range of samples, and make unique handcrafted bangles.

This course is suitable for students of all levels who would like to learn how to effectively decorate and pattern this versatile material and make one or more bangles with their samples.

What will we learn?

Colouring anodised aluminium using a variety of different techniques including:

  • Mark making with alcohol based markers and resists
  • Printing – resist and transfer printing techniques using batik (with wax crayons) methods, photocopies and patterned rubber stamps
  • Painting and dying techniques using aluminium dyes and inks
  • Design and make a bangle using the techniques learnt on the course
  • Jewellery techniques used – hammering, shaping and texturing aluminium
  • Sealing the metal to produce a colour fast surface

Your tutor will work with you as a group and as individuals to support and guide you through your learning

What will I need to bring?

Anodised aluminium, colouring mediums and printing materials will be supplied as part of the course fee.

If you wish to take notes, please provide a notebook and pen.
