What will we learn?

The course is divided into a number of modules, each designed to enhance your design and making skills

You will be introduced to basic techniques, including piercing, filing, annealing, forming, soldering, textures, polishing & finishing. You will also learn about basic stone setting, chain making & findings and use these skills further to inform your designs

Through visual research and design development, you will create an impressive portfolio which will reflect your inspiration and thought processes, translating research into design. This portfolio can be used to apply for our level 2 diploma course or other higher qualifications

During the final 6 weeks of the course you will work on creating an individual piece which will reflect all that you have learned

You will be supported throughout all aspects of the course, and will be required to present your work for assessment half way through the course, and once again at the end

I attended the level one diploma in 2017 and absolutely loved it. The teachers are knowledgeable and so so generous in sharing everything they know.
The course is structured to give students new skills and the confidence to use them alone. Really recommend this course and the lovely people that created it!

Tutors always encourage and give fantastic technical support with having an individual attention to each of us with regard to our personal development during the course. We have learnt a wide range of techniques and it has been an enormous fun. In a relaxing atmosphere, you learn from each other, who come from different backgrounds. Also sharing experiences and the passion for jewellery, design and craftsmanship

I’m so glad I decided to do the level 1 diploma – I learnt so much and discovered loads of new techniques. There was a good balance between making, workshops, research and project time with excellent tutors who are really approachable, supportive and knowledgeable. I finished feeling so much more confident in my making – thank you LJW!
