Enamelling is the art of fusing coloured glass on to the surface of metals. This course will introduce you to some of the basic enamelling techniques including Sgraffito and Cloisonne.
The course focuses on kiln fired enamel and uses lead based enamels. For this reason the course is not suitable for pregnant women or those trying to conceive.
You will learn how to prepare the metal, and how to work the enamel after application and firing.
The course covers the Sgrafitto technique (sifting), the use of stencils and decorative media, as well as how to prepare enamels for wet laying to create a piece of Cloisonne.
Your tutor will work with you as a group and as individuals to support and guide you through your learning.
All tools and materials will be provided, including a selection of copper blanks. If you wish to purchase a silver blank for the cloisonne project, or if you have jewellery making experience and wish to make your own blank, your tutor will be able to advise you.
