This one day course is an exciting opportunity to discover the process of pewter casting in order to create beautiful jewellery pieces and small objects.
This introductory course will give you an insight into how to approach the medium through a series of demonstrations followed by individual practice.
You will learn how to prepare models using ready made objects or polymer clay. You will then prepare moulds using sand (Delft Clay) and cuttlefish bone.
You will create one-off pieces by casting the pewter in to the moulds and learn how to finish and polish the cast pieces. You will also learn how to include cubic zirconia stones into the moulds. You should produce at least two cast items during the day.
Introduction to materials and tools will be taught as a group. Thereafter, students will receive individual advice for specific items.
We will supply all tools and materials, including pewter for casting.
Polymer clay and a selection of objects will be provided to make models, but you are invited to bring your own. You may also provide some cubic zirconia stones to include in your work.
Come with one or two ideas, either in a sketchbook or a model, and be prepared to adapt your ideas to the mould making medium.
Please wear suitable clothing and footwear for Health & Safety reasons.
