SILVER CLAY (1 DAY)

SILVER CLAY (1 DAY)

Course Outline

SIlver clay is made of fine silver particles, mixed with a non-toxic, water based binder. It can be worked in a similar way to clay and after drying it is fired to burn off the binding material, and fuse the metal particles together. Finished pieces can be further combined with other metals or materials.

The course will cover all the techniques you will need to get started and continue producing work at home.

This course is for anyone who is new to working with metal clay, as well as the experienced jeweller who would like to spend an exciting day experimenting and learning new techniques.

What will we learn?

You will learn about the properties and potential of the clay, and the tools used to work it. You will learn how to create even sheets, cut, form and join pieces, add surface texture and pattern, and how to include fireable stones. You will also learn how to create simple moulds and use them to replicate silver, found objects or organic materials.

We will cover how to dry and refine the clay, how to fire it with a blow torch, and how to finish and polish the pieces. You will make at least two pieces such as earrings, pendants or charms.

You will be taught as a group with plenty of indivudal 1-2-1 support, to create unique and individual jewellery

What will I need to bring?

All tools and consumables will be provided for the session, inlcuding silver clay. If more clay is required for larger or additional pieces, some will be available for sale on the day, at cost price.

There is no need to bring anything with you, but if you wish you may bring small objects or models that you would like to recreate in clay, and any flat, patterned fabrics or paper.

Please wear closed shoes to the session and bring glasses if required for close work

I discovered London Jewllery Workshop a few years ago and have never looked back. I came to learn jewellery and found not only a craft I loved, but also the most incredibly dedicated tutors and a wonderful community of people, some of whom I’m now lucky enough to call friends.

Genuinely some of the most brilliant tuition I’ve ever received. I can’t imagine life now without this skill, thank you LJW!
